The Best and Worst Hostel

I woke up this morning thinking, “New year, new city.” Isn’t that how the saying goes? 😉

My time in Sydney was coming to a close, and it was time for me to begin packing up my stuff. I realized that Pat and Tim’s apartment is the longest place I’ve stayed at in 7 months. And having spent those three weeks seeing cool things with awesome friends, yeah – it was really hard to say goodbye.

Can we just discuss how tired I am of goodbyes?

I spent the morning getting organized and packing up my things. By early afternoon, Pat, Arna, and Tim all came back from their various weekend NYE parties. We all sat around talking until it was time to say our goodbyes.

The awful part is when you find people you’d love to have in your normal, every day life … and yet they live halfway around the world. Pat, Arna, and Tim are exceptional people, and I look forward to the next time we can all meet up again. Thank you so much for your kindness, your hospitality, and your friendship.

And then I went to the airport.

I’ve found that airports are pretty much the same everywhere you go. They all have long lines, fancy designer stores, and a confusing duty-free store where you can’t find the exit.

I arrived into Gold Coast at around 9pm and caught a taxi to my hostel 10 minutes away.

Let me just say – at this point on the trip, I’ve been to a lot of hostels. I don’t even know the number, to be honest. But this hostel is by far the best and worst hostel I’ve ever been to.

Hostel

The staff doesn’t care, the place is filthy, half of the dorms don’t have A/C …

But the travelers staying here are top-notch awesome.

I walked into my room to discover that my dorm is one that doesn’t have A/C – which isn’t fun at all. I need A/C to sleep well. So instead, we opened up the patio door to let the breeze and bugs in. It’s going to be an interesting night.

However, above the hot mess of this hostel, the people are amazing. I can’t complain. Except for the A/C. I will complain about that and hopefully get moved to another room.
